Case Study Coffee Roasters – Portland OR

Case Study Coffee Roasters

Case Study Coffee Roasters is a coffee serving business in Portland, Oregon. It originally began in 2005, not as a cafe, but as an espresso catering business. In 2010, they began sprouting full-fledged shops, and these days have a total of four across Portland.

A Quality Coffee Shop Since 2010

The owners are Wes and Christine Russell, and they have had a hand in every aspect, from the design to the products. What sets Case Study apart is their care, passion, and commitment to exhibiting quality in everything they do, and this is most easily achieved by them because they make it fun.

They source a wide array of coffees from all over the world, and strive to work directly with the farmers when they can. Sometimes, a direct relationship is impossible, and instead of forfeiting a potentially rewarding coffee, they work with importers when needed.

They Feature 2 Coffee Selections to Educate Their Customers on the Process

Oftentimes at Case Study cafes, there will be a selection of two coffees, with both their similarities and differences taken into account. For instance, they have been known to pair two coffees from the same area, but that have been produced by different farmers, or processed in different ways.

This is a fun way of demonstrating to their customers how the different behind-the-scenes aspects can impact the coffee.

They Make Their Own Unique Flavored Syrups

More beverages served include cappuccinos, americanos, macchiatos, lattes, and mochas, as well as tea. These are typical drinks for any coffee shop, but Case Study makes their own unique syrups that can transform the flavors of any drink.

Offering Alternative Milks & Traditional Pastries

These flavors include fleur de sel caramel, fleur noir vanilla, chocolate, toasted hazelnut, and bourbon caramel. Alternative milks such as almond, breve, and soy are also on hand, and a wealth of pastries such as rolls, muffins, scones, cookies, and more round out the cafe’s offerings.

The Decor is Modern with a Touch of Quirkiness

Whereas customers can have fun customizing drinks and trying out different coffees, Case Study has had fun designing their shops. There are the woods and white walls found in most coffee shops, but further coffee passion can be seen in the quirky coffee molecule shaped light fixtures.

The fresh tiling and counters made of walnut add characteristic touches, and the design was both conceived and fulfilled by the owners and their staff.

Case Study Coffee Roasters desire to provide a place of warm hospitality, where their customers feel welcome to lounge for extended periods of time, and just as well, they want their staff to feel like a contributing, worthy presence in business operations.
