The Living Room Coffeehouse is a scenic coffee shop, bistro, and bar found in the La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego, California. Founded as early as 1998, The Living Room is aptly titled for multiple reasons, with one topical reason being that it was converted from a home into a what it is today.
The Living Room has two locations, with the second able to be found near the SDSU college campus. The location in La Jolla, however, has a perk to its place, and that is that it looks out over the ocean.
Unlike many standard coffee shops, The Living Room Coffeehouse has a second floor, prime for taking in the view. Also commonly taking place on the second floor is the exhibition of the local scene.

Hookah at a Coffee Shop?
The Living Room welcomes people of any and all sorts but caters to its blossoming scene of college students coming to lounge and study. The second floor is dubbed “The Lounge,” and it features a dedicated hookah bar and plays host to live music, among other events.
Another “bar” associated feature offered in The Living Room is just that, it’s a bar. The Living Room is first and foremost a coffeehouse, but its offering of adult focused amenities widens its appeal and at the same time makes it a prime spot for common young-adult activities.
Unlike otherwise normal coffee shops, The Living Room in La Jolla keeps the hours of a bar, being open from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and is open an extra hour on Fridays and Saturdays.
There’s More than Just Coffee
You don’t have to exclusively visit the store itself to sample its food, though, as they both deliver through Uber Eats, as well as supply surrounding local businesses with their products.
The food menu at The Living Room is quite large. They serve various soups, salads, sandwiches, and even deluxe sandwiches, like the Tuna Melt incorporating grilled vegetables and olive tapenade.
Options lending themselves to lunch and dinner include foods like their Turkey Lasagna and Pesto Tortellini. By and large the wealthiest portion of food offerings from The Living Room, however, is their baked goods.
They list a hefty amount of more than thirty gourmet baked treats, not including the separate flavors some items come in. Eclairs, truffles, cheesecakes, tarts; the options are broad. Of course, being a coffee shop, they serve coffee.
The Living Room’s Famous Drink List
Their drinks include well known beverages like cafe mochas, lattes, hot chocolates, and teas, but their blended drinks are where they stand out. Mostly labeled as “freezes,” these colorful beverages come in options such as “Toffee Coffee Freeze,” “Bomb Alaska Freeze,” “Tahitian Vanilla,” and more.
Voted “The Best” Multiple Times
All of the various aspects that make up The Living Room Coffeehouse have lent themselves to win a number of Village News Readers Choice Awards in 2019. They were voted “Best Eatery,” “Best Desserts,” “Best Place to People Watch,” “Best Cafe,” and “Best Coffee Shop.”
