Water Avenue Coffee is an artisan coffee roaster and cafe in Portland, Oregon. Founded in 2009, it started with more modest means and amenities than it boasts today, but the experience and expertise have been there from the very beginning.
The Highly Acclaimed Owners
Founders Bruce and Matt Milletto are two of Portland’s most highly acclaimed and renown individuals within the coffee community. The original form of Water Avenue Coffee was as a small-batch roaster, who, two pounds at a time, sold wholesale coffee throughout the surrounding area.
The location of their roaster is in a space next to the American Baristsa and Coffee School, where it is still located today. However, by 2010, the roasting space had evolved into the Water Avenue Coffee that not only sells wholesale but serves the community at large today. It is here that the two owners exercise their long-fostered skillset.
A Successful Father & Son Operation
Bruce Milletto has been on the scene for long enough to be labeled a “coffee luminary,” and has owned other coffee-related businesses such as Bellissimo Coffee Advisors.
Matt, Bruce’s son, joined him in the opening of the school they parked Water Avenue Coffee next to, and also teaches there. Notably, Matt Milletto is the current President of the Oregon Coffee Board. This list of accolades is nothing to scoff at, and they are deserving of them.
Sources Beans from South America
Water Avenue Coffee involves itself in good practices. It directly sources its beans from farmers throughout central America, striving to help them achieve a better quality of life and the most sustainable of means. These practices extend to the ingredients Water Avenue uses in their food as well.
The relationships they foster are always with the long-term in mind, and this does not end with their business partners. Water Avenue Coffee proudly treats their employees with as much care and respect.
Also, long-term focused, Water Avenue provides its employees with insurance benefits and not just training that benefits the store, but educational opportunities that educate baristas in life in general.
The Best Employee Benefits Around
After one year of working at Water Avenue, employees are able to travel to the source of the business’s products and get first-hand experience with the process and ways of life in those otherwise foreign countries. It should be noted that Water Avenue does not just hire anyone. The candidate must prove they are passionate.
Their Drink Menu is Award Winning
With all-star owners and staff, Water Avenue crafts high-quality beverages and food. The beverages include standards such as espresso, piccolos, mochas, cold brew, drip coffee, pour overs, lattes, chai, and tea. These are nothing particularly inventive, but with the high barista skill levels, they are winners of multiple Portland awards.
Also Serving Delicious Food
The food includes cafe commonalities such as egg sandwiches, breakfast and vegan burritos, granola bowls, and toasts. All of these come in a variety of options to ensure most people are satisfied.
Water Avenue Coffee enjoys the opportunity to treat its customers as well as it does its associates, and business has been good over the years. In 2015, they upgraded from a single Samiac roaster to the addition of three Proaster roasters. Take advantage of the high quality of Water Avenue Coffee by visiting them.
